Modern Glass Box
Midtown Manhattan, NYC
Symmetrical solid facade of this commercial office building just off Fifth Avenue provides focus on large street-level window openings in its center conceived to expose retail or restaurant-type establishment. At the same time office building above the ground level was accessed via tucked away, small entryway. This project aimed to change that perception by dramatically enlarging the entry arcade, repositioning clear glass revolving door and introducing a new, modern clean material to celebrate the moment of arrival and the transition coming from busy Midtown Manhattan street.
The "glass box" uses custom designed glass sandwich developed for this project in collaboration with Bendheim. It contains mirrored back, while it features non-directional pattern in the center and delicate wash in the front surface of the glass panel. The iridescent space is meant to resemble rain drops and to capture this poetically calm moment in the otherwise super busy city.
